Staff Sgt. Rotem Dushi z'l - Featuring Rabbi Elie Weinstock. Rabbi, Jewish Center of Atlantic Beach

"Always with the most perfect smile."

Rotem, son of Dvoret and Yaron, brother to Itay and Hadar from Shimshit, served in the 890th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade. He was known for his radiant smile and sense of humor that lit up every place he went. On the morning of October 7th, he was urgently called up, and fought heroically at the entrance to Kfar Aza. He eliminated terrorists and saved civilians, but was fatally struck by terrorists who were hiding in the bushes. He left behind a loving girlfriend and a family that promised to remain united and joyful. He was 20 years old when he fell.

In this heartfelt tribute, Rabbi Elie Weinstock reflects on the importance of smiling, inspired by the radiant smile of Staff Sergeant Rotem Dushi. Drawing on both Jewish teachings and modern science, he highlights how a simple smile can uplift not only our own spirits but also those of everyone around us. Through personal anecdotes and research, Rabbi Weinstock underscores the universal power of a smile to foster connection and enhance overall well-being.

Rotem was a true hero at k’far aza, and sounds like a loving and mentschlikh human being. I’m sure he is deeply missed by those who loved him and were touched by him. זכרונו לברכה
