ABOUT Legacies of Light

Legacies of Light is a moving 52-day journey of meaning, memory, and commitment that begins on Rosh Chodesh Elul and continues through Simchat Torah. Each day is devoted to one of the heroes who fell defending Israel in the October 7th Gaza war. These are not biographies, but soul-charged reflections, daily insights, values, and moments of inspiration drawn from the lives and words of the fallen. The content was written either by the heroes

themselves, in messages left for their families, or by their loved ones after their passing.

At the heart of the project is a beautifully designed desk calendar. Each page features a photo of a fallen soldier, a stirring quote, and a brief reflection that captures their spirit, courage, and legacy. It offers a deeply personal and intimate way to honor their memory, one day at a time. The calendar serves not only as a tribute but also as a daily reminder of the sacrifices made to

defend the Jewish people and the State of Israel.

In addition to the printed calendar, Legacies of Light includes a powerful series of 52 daily video reflections. Each short video is recorded by a respected voice from across the Jewish

world, educators, rabbis, artists, and leaders, who reflect on the hero featured that day, exploring their legacy and the timeless values they represent. These videos, delivered daily to participants, transform each reflection into a communal experience of

remembrance and inspiration.

Calendars will be distributed to synagogues nationwide and can also be purchased individually for a small fee to cover shipping. All proceeds benefit Nifgashim, an organization providing urgent support to reservists and their families. Together, the desk calendar

and video series form a powerful tribute, ensuring that the names, values, and light of these heroes continue to shine in the hearts of the Jewish people.

The Afikim Foundation is a dynamic programmatic incubator of creativity charged to

reach, teach and inspire a searching Jewish world and beyond, fortifying communal

and institutional partnerships, implementing meaningful, creative and educational

Jewish initiatives worldwide, and building lasting connections between global Jewry

and Israel.
