"If I die, I want you to do something for

at-risk youth, but I’m not dying."

Roee, son of Tali and Raanan, brother to Shira, Michal, and Eyal. He was from Ra’anana, a graduate of the Nachshon class and the Rabin Leadership Academy, and was a youth scout troop coordinator. He served in the Haruv Reconnaissance Unit and later as commander of the squad leaders’ class in 906th Battalion. Ten minutes before entering Gaza, he asked to be quoted: “If I die, I want you to do something for at-risk youth. But I’m not dying – I’m coming back to do it myself.” He was killed 13 days later in northern Gaza. He planned to work with at-risk youth and dreamed of founding a youth village. He was 22 years old when he fell.

In this touching tribute, Dr. Rafi Kalman reflects on the life and sacrifice of Staff Sergeant Roee Marome, who embodied the Jewish value that all of Israel is responsible for one another. Even before entering battle, Roee called on others to support at-risk youth, demonstrating his deep selflessness and dedication to community. As we honor him and other fallen heroes, Dr. Kalman urges us to take meaningful action to help those in need, ensuring that their legacies continue to inspire and uplift.
