Sgt. Major Eliraz Gabay z'l - Featuring Mr. Moshe Bane

"Do good to people not because of who they are or what

they will do in return, but because of who you are."

Eliraz, son of Aviva and Hertzel, brother to Sherry, husband to Coral, who was 5 months pregnant when he fell. He grew up in Tiberias and served as a reservist in the Yiftach Brigade. The sea was his life – as a diver who explored sites around the world – a diving instructor, and a person whose heart belonged to the ocean. He worked as an investment manager. He was known as a principled and good man, honoring his parents was his guiding light. He fell in central Gaza, leaving behind a son, Noam, born after his death. He was 37 years old.

In this heartfelt reflection, Moishe Bane delves into the essence of self-identity and the impactful legacy of kindness taught by Sergeant Major Eliraz Gabay. He emphasizes that our true self is defined not by our external attributes but by our choices and actions, particularly the willingness to help others selflessly, as exemplified by Avraham Avinu. This message encourages us to embrace benevolence and actively seek opportunities to support those in need, shaping our identity through acts of goodness.

Eliraz’s principle of doing good is so central to our tradition. What a deeply principled human being he was. I’m sure he is terribly missed. זכרונו לברכה
