Sgt. Ido Ovadia z'l - "Nothing is to be taken for granted – appreciate everything you are given."

Ido, eldest son of Yifat Lota and Ofer, brother to Yaara and Amit, served as a combat soldier in the Tzabar Battalion of the Givati Brigade and as an APC commander. He was known as a sociable guy with friends everywhere, he never complained and had endless patience. Driven by camaraderie, he always acted with modesty, seriousness, and immense motivation, even when it was hard. He loved to play tennis and basketball and dreamed of being a Formula 1 driver. He fell in Gaza with 10 comrades when the APC he was in was hit by an anti-tank missile. He was 19 years old.

In this heartfelt message, Rebbetzin Dr. Yael Ziegler reflects on the words of Ido Ovadia, a 19-year-old Givati soldier who fell in battle. She emphasizes the importance of gratitude in our daily lives and in our relationship with God. Her reflections underscore the power of appreciating what we have, even in the midst of struggle and hardship. Gratitude, she explains, connects us both to one another and to the Divine. Ido’s message serves as a poignant reminder to cherish the miracles in our lives and to honor the sacrifices made for our freedom and well-being.

I look at the photo of Ido and see such a 'shayne punim,' such haimishness. He must've been the ideal friend, and comrade to his fellow soldiers. A beautiful human being, and a terrible terrible loss. May you take comfort in who he was, and his attitude of gratitude for everything. זכרונו לברכה Erica Goldman in Portland, Oregon
