Master Sgt. Gideon Chai DeRowe z'l -Featuring Rabbi Menachem Penner - Executive Vice President, Rabbinical Council of America

"I can control my professionalism and determination,

my values, and if a price must be paid, I am ready to pay it."

Gideon, son of Yael and Ari, brother to Yasmin and Yair, and husband to Gabriella. He grew up in Sal’it and served in Yahalom. He was passionate about geography and hiking, influenced by his grandfathers’ stories of the Palmach and the Holocaust. He studied at Mechinat HaNegev and volunteered at a nursing home and an Ethiopian absorption center, and studied law and government at Reichman University and earned a Master’s in Terrorism Studies. For his third reserve round, he volunteered, returning from a family vacation. During an operation searching for terrorists in Beit Hanoun, he identified an explosive, pushed his comrades back, and absorbed the blast with his body, saving an entire platoon. He was 33 years old when he fell
