Major Roee Negri z'l - "Don’t stop to look at the bodies - we’re here to save civilians - our own people. We are fighting for our home."

Roee, son of Michal and Shmulik, brother to Gal and Gaya, husband to Shai. He served as a reservist operational team commander in the Lotar unit. He was raised and educated in Ra’anana. Alongside his work as a programmer, he served as CEO of the Lotar Association. On October 7th, he mobilized himself and his team and set out for action in Kibbutz Be’eri, bravely leading the force in clearing house-to-house, trying to rescue civilians. He fell pushing his team back and shielding them from an explosion. He had married a month and a half before the war. He was 28 years old when he fell.

In this heartfelt reflection, Rabbi Raphael Butler honors Major Roee Negri, a brave Lotar unit commander from Tel Aviv who fell during the Hamas invasion on October 7th. Newly married just six weeks prior, Roee carried a profound sense of mission, inspiring his team to focus on saving lives amidst the chaos. His powerful message captures the true spirit of fighting to protect home and loved ones, reminding us all of the clarity and purpose that can emerge even in the darkest moments of grief.

What a fine and valiant person was Roee, ז״ל. His priorities - saving lives, defending Israel, investment in his family - embody mentschlikhkeit, courage, and a strong sense of purpose. I hope that his wife, parents, siblings, family and friends are comforted by this legacy which will not be forgotten. זכרונו לברכה
