Capt. Yarin Gahali z'l - "First of all, be a person. Then be a fighter."

Yarin, eldest son of Shira and Oren, and brother to Elay, was captain of the basketball team at De-Shalit High School and poured his heart into sports. Maccabi Rehovot became his second home. Despite being an outstanding athlete, he enlisted in the Givati Reconnaissance Unit, where he served as a team commander. He was known as a commander whose whole heart belonged to his soldiers, and for his ability to see the person in front of him and meet them with humility and compassion. He was killed in battle in Khan Yunis while leading his fighters. He was 22 years old.

It's a good challenge to remain human in the struggles of everyday life and only fight and stand up for what's right when necessary. Your memory is a blessing to us.

What a beautiful human being and complete mensch. Yarin’s death is a tragedy, but he has left a deep and abiding legacy. In his all-too-short life he had understood how to live and what is most important. זכרונו לברכה.
